The Greater Shelburne Falls Area Business Association was founded in the early 1980's with its original name of Shelburne Falls Businessmen’s Association. Recognizing a need for such an organization, a handful of Bridge Street merchants got together to promote the Village of Shelburne Falls. They were the founders of events that occurred on Bridge Street throughout the year. The most remembered is Moonlight Magic, then called Moonlight Madness. This event continues to be a favorite as it ushers in the Christmas shopping season, drawing visitors from throughout Western Massachusetts.
Over time the Association attracted additional merchants as well as artists and crafts people who had businesses in the Village. About 1990 the name was changed to the Shelburne Falls Area Business Association. Noting its location in the heart of the Mohawk Trail Region, its focus widened beyond the Village to include the Mohawk Trail and several abutting towns.
The organization continued to grow and attracted area business people from outside the retail venue. Now, with the inclusion of 10 towns from the surrounding area and nearly 250 members, the Association has added the word “Greater” to its name. The Board of Directors and committee members are dedicated volunteers lending their time and talents to attract tourists to the region and ensure that area towns and businesses will thrive.
